Pediatrics: Acupuncture for Children
Birth- Age 10
Asian Medicine is an excellent, effective addition to your child's conventional pediatric care.
The sophisticated lens of Asian Medicine is unique in its ability to recognize subtle disharmonies in the body before they progress into clinically significant disease. It is also a safe, gentle, and holistically healthy way to address many common childhood ailments that have already taken form.
Initial visit: approximately 45 mins/ $40
The first appointment includes a discussion of the health of your child, a physical health evaluation, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and a treatment that may include acupuncture. Acupuncture with needle insertion is dependent on the age and readiness of the child. Some children are better suited for non-insertive tools & modalities that create similar therapeutic affects as needles.
For those who are ready, the acupuncture needles that I use for children are the tiniest needles, hairlike, flexible, and virtually pain-free. I call them "kitty whiskers" to avoid association with the painful syringe style vaccination needles. The sensation felt with "kitty whiskers" is simply the 'tap' of the guide tube pressing lightly against the skin's surface. Duration of needle retention varies for each child, anywhere from seconds (in and out) to 10-15 mins for an older, calm child. Treatments aim to be relaxing and enjoyable. Most children look forward to our appointments together.
Please have your child dress in comfortable clothing that allows easy access from knee to foot and elbow to hand as well as to their abdominal region.
Follow-up visit: approximately 30 mins/$30
A follow-up visit includes a short check-in to evaluate followed by a treatment.
Please have your child dress in clothing that allows easy access from knee to foot and elbow to hand as well as to their abdominal region.
Testimonial of a 6 year old while receiving "kitty whiskers", retained needle acupuncture.
